Why do Cellars Need Constant Temperature and Humidity

Many people do not understand why it is troublesome for the storage of the wine. Today we will tell the reason why the wine cellar requires constant temperature and humidity.

First, let's briefly talk about what the wine is. Merely speaking, wine is a "low-alcohol" beverage produced from mature wine grapes after fermentation. It will change with different environments, which is a law of natural circulation, from new wine-mature-aging-deterioration. Because of it, we believe that "wine is a living drink."

The constant wine storage temperature and wine storage humidity environment's primary function is to delay the period from maturity to deterioration of wine. Temperature fluctuations will exert pressure on the wine and cause the liquid in the bottle to expand and contract, putting pressure on the seal of the cork and causing premature leakage and deterioration. For example, for a bottle of wine, its maturity time should be two years. Still, suppose it is stored in a non-constant temperature and humidity environment. In that case, its maturity time may become a year, which accelerates its time, which will affect the taste of the wine and may even ruin an excellent wine.

Due to the different climate and geological conditions in various regions, constant temperature and humidity equipment are indispensable for wine cellars. For example, French wine cellars are mostly underground limestone cave dwelling. The geology itself is very suitable for wine storage. While most wine cellars are basically built in cities, and there is no limestone layer. Therefore, for wine to be stored in the best environment, it is necessary to artificially adjust the temperature and humidity through some professional equipment with constant temperature and humidity to achieve the desired effect. We recommend that wine storage humidity should be maintained at 65-75% RH, and storage temperature should be maintained at 10-15ºC (50-59ºF).
